Game 7 of Lowcountry United’s Inaugural Season of the United Premier Soccer League saw the orange & black travel away to North Carolina to face Broncos United FC in a first ever meeting of the two clubs.
Lowcountry United kicked off 1st and club leading goal scorer Jamal Eddine drew first blood shortly after kickoff with another magical goal that stunned the Broncos in the early minuets of the match. Eddine carried the ball deep into the Broncos half after a long throw in from left back Matthew Hazel, while Eddine dragged the shadowing Broncos right back out wide and in what seems like routine, Eddine’s lethal left footed shot from outside the far 18 curled beautifully into the far right side netting to take United up 1-0.
United continued to keep the lion’s share of possession and after a couple unclaimed through balls, the Broncos midfield would cause the foul around 20 yards out. Once again Jamal Eddine would step up and send in a beautiful curling shot over the defensive wall, with the shot dipping down the Broncos GK was unable to make the save and left Broncos United with a 2 goal deficit to come back from.
Broncos United would continue to try to gain possession from wide angles. The Broncos attack would continue to quickly push several players forward and try to slip one in behind veteran Brazilian defender Mateus Brito, unfortunately the Lowcountry defense would continue to cut the attack short with numerous intelligent offside traps being completed.
The frustration would continue to build from the Broncos and the lapse in focus saw scoring partners Austin Savage and Jamal Eddine complete another classy finish. Savage collected a driven pass from CM Brandon Farley and with a quick give and go from Eddine he would bend a low shot past the standing keeper.
With a 3-0 deficit in the first half to come back from the Broncos United defense would give themselves further trouble with giving away a penalty in the box which was the call for Eddine to grab his 2nd hat trick of the season. Eddine stepped up and from 12 yards out made no mistake and put the boys up 4-0 with time left in the half. Broncos would answer back with a goal of their own after a failed switch of play saw a handball outside the United 18. Broncos would pop a rock of a shot that saw United Keeper Brenden Callahan miss the save by inches just before the half.
The second half saw Lowcountry United make a couple changes with Berkeley High school forward Griffin Callahan making his UPSL debut alongside defender Jesus Martinez. Martinez would enter the mix and make a fantastic contribution with a well weighted touch around the Broncos left back who would turn and sweep Martinez right inside the corner of the 18 which would result in an awarded PK to Lowcountry. Savage would step up and put a second goal past the keeper with a low left corner goal.
The match would continue with couple of shots from both sides but none would find the net and full time saw Lowcountry United grab a 5-1 win over Broncos and head back to Charleston with another 3 points. United remain top of the UPSL Southeast conference with 21 points from 7 games.
United play away again to FC Cardinals this coming Saturday. The last meeting of these two clubs was on 3/10/18 with United claiming a 9-2 victory.
