United kicked off the 2019 United Premier Soccer League season at home against North Carolina based FC Cardinals.
The night was filled with excitement as the teams arrived. The fall hiatus for the home team from UPSL action was almost too much to hear with United chomping at the bit to get the 2019 season going. Lowcountry started off the match in front of a great home crowd of 112 supporters. The match was a bit nervy in the early stages with a bit of possession play and turnovers in midfield. After 25 mins the game really settled down and united continued to penetrate the defensive back line with no success. On the counter attack FC Cardinals our the home side on notice with the Cardinals forward being away on goal. But United #1 Camilo Agudelo made himself big and claimed the ball with a big sliding save. The first half ended with Lowcountry having most of the possession along with several attempts on goal.
Halftime saw an immediate response to the deadlock with team Captain Justin White making a run on goal and put a teasing cross into the far post where veteran midfielder Brandon Farley powered it home to take LUFC up 1-0 in the 51’ and score the first goal of the 2019 season!
It wouldn’t take long for Lowcountry to take it up to 2-0 with another goal coming within 4 mins of the 1st. Right back Giorgos Tambakis takes the throw in the from right hand side of the field and forward Tyler Clare slots one past the Cardinals keeper.
The home fans were buzzing with excitement as the relief of a 2-0 score line allowed the team to settle down the speed of the game.
Camilo Agudelo continues to dominate between the sticks as the EgoSport sponsored Goalkeeper made another massive save in the 60’ that saw him block a direct shot one on one with the Cardinals forward.
The final goal was one of beauty with forward Clare driving down the right side and placing a square pass to United winger Hunter Danna who laid off a back pass to Mario Zemeriad who sent a right footed rocket into the upper 90 to make it a 3-0 score line.
A couple more subs for both sides and a few yellow cards to the visitors and the evening would finish off with a final of 3-0.
